A Chinese restaurant in the Maritime Quarter of Swansea has been named the best in Wales.
Two eateries from Swansea , and one from Cardiff , were shortlisted for the title at the inaugural Golden Chopsticks Awards 2018, which were established to celebrate the best Asian food in the country
The overall winner, which was announced at a ceremony in London, is Swansea’s Gigi Gao’s Favourite Authentic Chinese. It will now go forward to be considered for the title of the best in the UK.
Headed by presenter Gok Wan, the winners were voted for by customers, while separate industry prizes were awarded by a judging panel including Ken Hom, Ching-He-Huang, School of Wok’s Jeremy Pang and Sunday Brunch’s Simon Rimmer.
Gigi says: “When I first took the call to say we’d been nominated I thought it was a scam.
“I didn’t realise until we arrived at the awards evening quite how prestigious the award is.
“I’m thrilled to have won, as it truly puts us on the map in respect of UK oriental cuisine. When someone as globally respected as Ken Hom says he’s heard of Gigi Gao’s Favourite Authentic Chinese it means so much, I can’t put into words.”
On the menu you will find everything from Beijing roast duck to chicken and lamb skewers and spare ribs.
It is due to open a new cocktail bar complete with Chinese cocktails.
